About Full Facelifts
A full facelift is a surgical procedure that can effectively address several regions of the face to elevate your appearance. This procedure is highly customizable and combines either a brow lift or blepharoplasty with a SMAS facelift to address age-related concerns around the upper/lower eyelids, eyebrows, and lower face, creating transformational results in one treatment session.
SMAS Facelift
A SMAS facelift is a variation of the facelift that targets the fibrous layer of facial tissue known as the Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System (SMAS), in addition to the skin and soft tissues. These dynamic adjustments allow you to achieve more natural-looking and longer-lasting results. (1)
Brow Lift
A brow lift, or forehead lift, is a procedure that can elevate the position of your eyebrows, effectively addressing sagging, forehead wrinkles, and 11 lines. Dr. Casey can perform several different brow lift variations, including the endoscopic brow lift, temporal brow lift, and traditional brow lift.
- Endoscopic Brow Lift: Endoscopic brow lifts use a small camera called an endoscope to perform each correction, and they are most suitable for milder concerns.
- Temporal (Lateral) Brow Lift: Temporal brow lifts elevate the outer portion of your eyebrows to achieve more subtle results, and they are most effective when addressing moderate signs of aging.
- Traditional (Coronal) Brow Lift: Traditional brow lifts place an incision behind the hairline to address more severe and significant concerns.
Blepharoplasty
A blepharoplasty, or an eyelid lift, is a surgical procedure that addresses sagging eyelids and descended fat to create a more well-rested, smoother look. It can target the upper eyelids or lower eyelids, or it can target both in the same procedure. (2)
Full Facelift Candidates
You may be an ideal candidate for a full facelift if you have developed moderate to severe signs of facial aging and wish to address them. Full facelifts are highly effective when addressing concerns such as:
- Loose or lax upper or lower eyelid skin
- Hanging skin around the middle and lower face
- Sagging or lowered eyebrows
- Jowling
- Deep nasolabial folds
- Under-eye bags
- Puffiness around the eyelids
- Wrinkles and creases
To qualify for your procedure, you should be in good general health and possess good skin elasticity. You should maintain realistic expectations regarding your results. It is important that you are nonsmoking or willing to quit for an extensive period of time. Dr. Casey will establish your candidacy during your personal consultation.
Personal Consultation
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to facial rejuvenation, which is why we ask that you attend a personal consultation before scheduling your full facelift. During this consultation, Dr. Casey will meet with you individually to discuss what a full facelift consists of, learn more about your medical history, converse about your personal concerns and aesthetic goals, and examine your natural anatomy and skin quality.
She will use this information to finalize your candidacy and create your treatment plan. She will determine the most effective approach for your case and explain the steps to give you a full understanding of the procedure.

Preparation
Once you have scheduled your procedure, you will need to begin making several preparations. Dr. Casey will provide you with a detailed set of instructions, which may direct you to:
- Cease Certain Medications: Discontinue the use of any medications or supplements that contain blood-thinning properties.
- Arrange Time Away: Prepare to take a step away from your career, social commitments, and other responsibilities, as you will need to give yourself time to heal.
- Plan Your Transportation: Ask a trusted relative or friend to drive you home after your procedure, as you will not be able to transport yourself.
- Prepare Your Prescriptions: Pick up any medications you may need as you heal beforehand.
- Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from consuming any alcohol before and after your appointment.
- Stop Smoking: Cease any nicotine use several weeks leading up to your procedure, and maintain your abstinence throughout your recovery afterwards.
Procedure
When you arrive for your procedure, a member of the Aeris team will lead you to our private surgical suite, where you will meet Dr. Casey and her surgical team. She will review the details of your treatment plan with you and confirm that you are comfortable and confident going into your procedure.
After your skin is cleansed, you will receive anesthesia. Dr. Casey may address the eyebrows and/or eyelids before moving on to the lower face, although this may vary depending on the details of your treatment plan.
Recovery
As you heal, it is common to experience some swelling or bruising around the treated areas. These effects are transient and will dissipate on their own, but you may also manage them by using a cold compress, taking any medications Dr. Casey prescribes, and getting plenty of rest.
You will likely be able to return to most of your daily activities after resting for about two weeks, but you will need to refrain from any strenuous or physically demanding activities until you receive clearance from Dr. Casey.
Dr. Casey and staff at Aeris will have you attend follow-up appointments throughout your recovery to ensure you are healing optimally. If you have any questions about full facelift recovery, our team will be available to provide you with attentive support and guidance.
Results
You may notice initial improvements in your appearance as you continue to recover, but the refined results of your procedure will become more apparent once any residual swelling subsides.
While the results of the full facelift may vary, you can generally expect to enjoy a brighter and more alert expression around your eyes, lifted eyebrows, and smoother, tighter-looking skin. Each of these enhancements can help you comprehensively transform your facial aesthetics and contribute to a more desirable appearance.
Your results will be long-lasting, with effects that you can enjoy for years to come. However, the natural effects of aging will continue to affect your appearance in the long-term. To preserve your results as long as possible, we recommend that you take anti-aging precautions like applying SPF daily, staying out of the sun, drinking plenty of water, and finding a skincare routine that works for your unique skin type.
