About Breast Lifts
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that elevates the breasts on the chest wall while simultaneously recontouring them to appear more youthful.
When it comes to your breasts, the decision to make permanent changes is always very personal. Many of our patients find that they start to look older and aged as their breasts start to sag, droop, and lose their firmness. A breast lift can address each of these changes and more, allowing you to live your life more freely, comfortably, and confidently.
Benefits
Breast lifts provide several significant benefits, such as:
- More Sculpted Breasts: A breast lift will restore a perkier, more contoured appearance to the breasts.
- Enhanced Proportions: Removing any sagging or loose tissue from the breasts can help you achieve a more balanced silhouette.
- Improved Asymmetry: This procedure can address unevenness between the breasts, resulting in a more symmetrical appearance overall.
- Corrected Nipples: A breast lift can effectively correct the appearance of overly large or downward-facing nipples.
- Tailored Treatment Plans: Our surgical team designs each procedure around the unique anatomy and goals of each patient.
- Long-Lasting Results: Breast lifts yield long-lasting results, with many patients enjoying their renewed appearance for several years.
Candidates
Suitable candidates for a breast lift include most patients interested in addressing the appearance of sagging or deflated breasts without adding additional volume. Prospective breast lift patients should be in good overall health and maintain realistic expectations regarding what this procedure can achieve. Patients should also be nonsmokers or willing to quit using nicotine entirely. A Aeris surgeon will finalize each patient’s candidacy during their consultation.
Personal Consultation
During your personal consultation, your surgeon will meet with you one-on-one to determine whether a breast lift is right for you. They will converse with you about your medical history, aesthetic concerns, and desired outcomes. They will also perform a physical examination to evaluate your breasts and determine the degree of lift needed. Throughout the consultation, your surgeon will also address any questions or concerns you may have, ensuring you feel thoroughly prepared and well-informed.
If you are ready to schedule your consultation, please contact us online or call (305) 446-7700.
Preparation
Once you schedule your breast lift, your surgeon will provide a detailed set of pre-operative instructions. These instructions may direct you to:
- Refrain from taking any medications or supplements that contain blood-thinning properties.
- Quit using nicotine in the weeks leading up to your appointment and refrain from any use throughout your recovery.
- Pre-arrange transportation to and from your procedure.
- Request time away from work and other responsibilities.
- Avoid drinking alcohol in the days before and after your appointment.
- Fill any prescriptions ahead of time.
The exact instructions you receive may vary depending on the details of your surgical plan. However, following each one closely ensures a successful procedure and a quick recovery.
Procedure
An anesthesiologist will place you under general anesthesia for this procedure. Once you are asleep and our medical team has prepared the treatment area, your surgeon will begin placing incisions around your breasts. They may use one of three incision techniques, which they determine during your consultation.
- Circumareolar Incision: This incision circles the perimeter of the nipple. (2)
- Inframammary Incision: This incision placement runs horizontally beneath the breast creases (inframammary creases).
- Vertical Incision: This incision first circles the nipple, then extends vertically downward towards the breast crease. (2)
After placing your incisions, your surgeon will begin reshaping your breasts. They may remove excess fat and excise loose or sagging breast tissue. They may also reposition or reshape your nipples to achieve a more central and proportionate look. Once your surgeon makes each of the corrections, they will carefully close each incision before leaving you to rest under the care of the Aeris team.
Recovery
The surgeons at Aeris perform breast lifts on an outpatient basis, which means you will return home on the same day as your procedure.
In the first few days of your recovery, it is common to experience swelling, bruising, or tenderness around the treated area. You may also experience temporary changes in nipple sensation, which typically resolve after about two weeks.
You may return to your career and light activities after resting for several weeks. However, you will need to continue refraining from any high-impact, physically demanding, or strenuous tasks until your surgeon clears you to return.
Your surgeon will provide a full set of post-operative instructions to guide you through your recovery. These instructions will include directions on how to care for your incisions and manage any activity restrictions, ensuring you achieve the best possible results.
Results

You will be able to enjoy the full, refined results of your breast lift once any residual swelling subsides. Your breasts will appear firmer and more lifted, enhancing your natural figure and creating a more balanced, proportionate silhouette. While the aging process continues, the results of a breast lift are long-lasting, allowing you to enjoy your improved appearance for many years.
Corresponding Procedures
Breast Augmentation
A breast lift improves the position of the breasts, but it will not add additional volume. Some patients wish to enhance breast volume and position in one procedure. In these cases, the Aeris surgeons will pair a breast lift with breast augmentation.
Breast augmentation enhances the size, shape, volume, and symmetry of the breasts, using either breast implants or a fat transfer. This can enhance breast lift results by restoring youthful volume and addressing breast deflation while also adjusting breast position.
Mommy Makeover
Many patients choose to include a breast lift as part of a mommy makeover to address the physical changes caused by pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. In addition to a breast lift, a mommy makeover may include a tummy tuck and liposuction to address additional concerns. This combination of procedures helps patients address common concerns associated with post-pregnancy, such as separated abdominal muscles, stubborn fat deposits, and sagging skin. Mommy makeovers are known for their exceptional results and streamlined recovery—patients will only need to undergo one recovery period as opposed to several.
