Neck Lift
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Miami, FL

A neck lift is a cosmetic procedure performed to enhance one’s appearance by addressing and removing excess skin and fat from around the neck. As patients age, their skin loses collagen, a protein that helps it maintain its structure and elasticity. Droopy skin and excess fat beneath the chin can result in loss of jawline definition. (1) A neck lift can address each of these changes and restore a more youthful-looking appearance by carefully removing excess skin and stubborn fat. The surgeon will also target the platysma muscle to further tighten the neck appearance and create results that last.
At the Aeris Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine, Dr. Liann Chin Casey is highly experienced in performing neck lift procedures. Frequently combining this technique with a SMAS facelift, Dr. Casey focuses on achieving natural-looking, long-lasting results by tightening underlying muscles, removing excess skin, and enhancing the overall contour of the jawline and neck.

About Neck Lifts
A neck lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that is designed to restore a more youthful-looking appearance by addressing changes to the neck. These changes, while often attributed to aging, can be amplified by a variety of factors, such as genetics, sun damage, hormonal changes, and lifestyle. (2)
Addressing the Platysma Muscle
During a neck lift procedure, Dr. Casey will reposition and tighten the muscles in the neck, also known as the platysma muscles, to help patients achieve a more defined, slender neck. These muscles facilitate facial expressions, help move the head and neck, and protect the underlying tissues. (3) A neck lift is often performed alongside a facelift to provide comprehensive rejuvenation. Dr. Casey tailors each procedure to the patient’s unique needs.
Benefits
A neck lift offers several benefits for patients, including:
- Increased Confidence: Patients frequently report an improvement in their overall self-esteem and confidence after their neck lift.
- Deep Rejuvenation: Dr. Casey addresses the platysma muscle to tighten the neck and create stable results.
- Youthful-Looking Appearance: A neck lift can contribute to an overall more youthful-looking and defined appearance, effectively reducing sagging skin or other visual signs of aging.
- Reduced Neck Banding: This procedure can effectively reduce the visible muscle bands that develop over time on the neck.
- Improved Jawline Definition: Sculpting the neck also enhances the overall shape and appearance of the jawline, making features look sharper.
- Lasting Results: With proper care and maintenance, the results of a neck lift can last for several years.
Candidates
All candidates interested in our neck lift procedures should be in good overall health without any underlying medical conditions that may make them unfit for surgery. It is also important that realistic expectations are held regarding the outcome of the procedure. The most suitable candidates for this procedure include those with excess skin and fat around their necks. Patients are typically between the ages of 40 and 60 years old with a lack of definition around the jaw, chin, and neck; however, candidacy is primarily based on health and anatomy rather than age. Personal Consultation
The first step to a slimmer and more slender neck is attending a personal consultation with Dr. Casey. During this meeting, Dr. Casey will ask the patient a series of questions regarding their medical history, concerns, and treatment goals. Dr. Casey will also perform a physical examination to investigate the state of your neck. Using this information, she will confirm your candidacy and craft your treatment plan. She will provide you with pre-operative and post-operative instructions, as well as a cost estimate for the procedure.
Patients are encouraged to prepare and ask questions, as well as voice any concerns, as our team is here to support and help them every step of the process.

Preparation
At Aeris, Dr. Casey ensures that her patients are educated about the entire procedural process. She will provide detailed preoperative preparation guidelines which may differ depending on the patient’s lifestyle and medical history.
Patients will need to discontinue using certain medications and herbal supplements containing blood-thinning properties under medical guidance. Consuming alcohol should be avoided several days in advance. Patients should also stop smoking at least one month in advance for optimal healing. (2)
Patients will need to pre-arrange for transportation home from the procedure. Time away from work and other social commitments should be taken to focus on healing. Patients should also fill their prescriptions ahead of time so they can focus on their recovery.
Procedure
Each procedure will begin with the administration of general anesthesia. Dr. Casey will then place incisions either under the chin or behind the ears to help minimize scarring. From there, she will reposition, sew together, and tighten the platysma muscle. The tightening of the platysma muscle is a key component of Dr. Casey’s procedure; this neck muscle can contribute to visible neck bands when elasticity is lost, and worsen overall sagging. By repositioning and tightening this underlying structure, Dr. Casey provides deeper rejuvenation and longer-lasting results.
Dr. Casey will also remove excess tissue and fat from around the neck and jawline. Once each patient’s desired appearance has been achieved, she will carefully close the incisions. She will place drains to help collect and remove any fluid buildup, and bandage the area.
While the procedure time can vary depending on the extent of correction, patients can expect their neck lift to take approximately four hours.
Recovery
After your procedure, you can return home to rest and focus on your recovery. Each individual should ensure they follow all post-operative instructions provided by their surgeon or another member of our team for the smoothest recovery and best possible outcomes.
During this time, bruising, swelling, and/or tenderness may occur at the treatment site. These effects are temporary and will subside on their own, but may also be addressed using pain medication. It is also recommended that patients keep their heads still and elevated to further reduce swelling. After approximately five days of rest, each patient will need to return to the office to have their sutures and drains removed, if applicable. Our team will also take the time to ensure they are healing properly at this appointment.
Patients can usually return to work within two weeks, depending on the physical demands of their jobs. However, you should avoid high-intensity exercise temporarily until you are approved by your surgeon.
Results

Patients can enjoy the full effects of their neck lift after the swelling subsides. Patients will notice a more defined and slender neck as well as a sharper jawline. They can also enjoy a more youthful-looking appearance after diminishing wrinkles, jowls, and fine lines. With proper care and healthy lifestyle habits, the results of a neck lift are long-lasting, allowing patients to maintain their revitalized appearance for years to come.
Corresponding Procedures
Facial Liposuction
Facial liposuction is a contouring procedure designed to eliminate fat from around the face and neck to enhance one’s appearance. This treatment utilizes a suctioning cannula that is gently maneuvered back and forth to emulsify the fat cells and remove them using suction. This procedure can be performed to address small pockets of fat throughout the face and beneath the chin to help further define each patient’s contours and sculpt the face.

FAQ
Will a neck lift help me address my jowls?
A neck lift primarily targets the areas beneath the chin and neck, which may not directly address the jowls. During your consultation, we can discuss combining your neck lift with other treatments to address additional aesthetic goals.
Can my neck lift address my double chin?
A neck lift can help reduce the appearance of a double chin when combined with liposuction or fat removal techniques. During your consultation, we can determine the best approach based on your anatomy.
Is there a specific age I have to be to undergo a neck lift?
Most patients between the ages of 40 and 60 will see the most transformative results. However, there is no specific age requirement for a neck lift.
Can my neck lift be combined with another procedure?
Yes, our most popular combinations include those with either a facelift or facial liposuction. Your surgeon can suggest additional procedures depending on your goals.
Will a neck lift leave scars?
There is a chance that your neck lift will leave scars because incisions are required in the treatment. However, by utilizing sharp, sterile instruments and placing incisions in inconspicuous locations, tissue damage is minimized, allowing scars to fade as you heal and be hidden by your hair and natural facial contours.
